Bee sting? Slice a clove of garlic and rub where it stung.
Trick to good rising dough? Make the sign of the cross on the dough with your hands and pray. Really! My Horkoors taught me that while learning to make Lahmajune. It works, just have some faith.
Anise tea for gas aches: boil a teaspoon of anise seed and 1 cup of water in your jezveh until pale yellow. Drink while hot. Or just munch on a few seeds if you don't have time for tea. There's even the candy coated anise seeds usually found during Easter or some one's Hadig.
Mint tea for nausea: boil a teaspoon of your homemade, dried mint and 1 cup of water in your jezveh until pale green. Drink while hot.
Ankle sprain? Make a salt dough, (need to get the recipe for you guys.) Place it on your ankle. Wrap with plastic wrap, and keep it on overnight. Make sure to wear a sock over the wrap--just to make sure you don't get your bed dirty.
Now, don't forget the Oghie:
The Greeks use Windex (according to MBFGW)... but Armenians? We use "Oghie," aka Arak. Yup, I think it's safe to say that's our version of Windex...
It cures so many ailments!
Have a toothache? Don't go to the dentist. Rub some oghie on it.
Baby teething? Rub some oghie on his gums.
Baby has gas? Rub some oghie on his tummy.
Can't sleep? Drink a shot of oghie!
Of course some of these methods may be frowned upon nowadays. ;)
If you're an Armenian Housewife you may already know these, but share some of your own in the comments. I would love to read them!
This blog in general is a work of comedy and is all in good fun. I am not a doctor. Please don't sue me if your teeth fall out and you have liver failure because you drank oghie instead of going to the dentist. ;)
